Dear Colleagues,

Through the summer heat, tropical storms, rain, and floods…I am thrilled to welcome you to the first day of classes for Fall Semester 2024! The campus is alive with energy and activity as we moved our students into housing last weekend, welcomed our freshman in Convocation, and experienced Freedom’s Flight!

This fall, our Eagle community is represented by nearly 28,000 students and a new freshman class of over 5,000 – from Statesboro to Savannah, to Hinesville and online our students represent all 50 states plus the District of Columbia and 102 countries around the world. Our students will be learning, discovering, and innovating with world-class faculty and staff in state-of-the-art facilities on over 1,600 acres of one of the most beautiful universities in America. I encourage everyone to engage and attend our many events, concerts, lectures, and athletic competitions (Hail Southern)! Our community and the experiences we share together are what makes Georgia Southern so very special.  Please check our calendar of events here.

This academic year, we will chart our flight plan for the future…launching our updated brand campaign, new website redesign, and phase I of our Strategic Enrollment Plan, reaffirming our SACSCOC accreditation and QEP, furthering our “Soaring to R1” strategies, and developing a new institutional strategic plan that will ensure we Soar Beyond all expectations. I will be covering this information and more at the State of the University scheduled for September 4 (Statesboro) and September 5 (Armstrong).  More details on the State of the University address will be emailed on the morning of each event. I hope you can join me and our leadership team as I share important insights into our trajectory and present our elevated brand!

As we welcome our new and returning faculty, staff, and students, let’s continue our journey of growing ourselves to grow others!  We have so much to celebrate – record enrollment post consolidation, record student success indicators, record fundraising, record research – and so much to accomplish… Together We Soar!
