Georgia Southern Made the Transfer Honor Roll for 2024

Here’s what Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society has to say about this award:

Georgia Southern was awarded the Transfer Honor Roll badge for 2024 by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Each year, PTK recognizes the top four-year colleges and universities in 40 key metric areas. Here are the top metrics.

  1. Success rates of transfer students
  2. Campus friendliness and sense of belonging
  3. Availability of need- and merit-based financial aid
  4. Acceptance of transfer credits toward a four-year degree program
  5. Recruitment experience and campus life for transfers

The transfer honor roll is a great place to start if you are looking for a college or university where you will feel welcome, get great financial aid benefits, have success, and get your transfer credits to count toward your degree.  Over 900 four-year colleges and universities compete for the Transfer Honor Roll recognition.

On your Georgia Southern application, you should simply select “Transfer Student.” These three descriptors are only used as internal ways to evaluate your application for admission based on how many hours you have completed or have in progress.

Most schools allow you to send us an electronic PDF of your transcript directly through a third-party vendor. To do this, log into the student portal at your previous institution and submit an electronic request.

You may also contact their Registrar’s Office and inform them that you want a transcript sent to Georgia Southern’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This is the recommended method, as it usually arrives the quickest. If this option requires an email address, please use admissions@georgiasouthern.edu.

If your school does not have an electronic option, they should fax your transcript to 912-478-7240 or mail it to:

Yes, please send transcripts from all of your previously attended institutions when applying; official or unofficial transcripts are sufficient for an admissions decision. We cannot evaluate transfer credits listed on a college transcript if you earned them at a different institution.

Should you decide to initially send unofficial transcripts, your official transcripts must be received by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before you enroll.

Yes, we encourage applicants to submit their official preliminary college transcripts. They also have the option to submit unofficial transcripts for an admissions decision; however, official transcripts must be received by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before they enroll.

The sooner you send us your official transcripts and receive an admission decision, the more options you will have for classes and financial aid. However, if this is your very first semester, email your current course schedule to transfers@georgiasouthern.edu until you have grades earned at that institution.

Your status check page reflects live data, and documents are added as quickly as possible once they are received. Once your status says “Awaiting Decision,” it is under review by our staff.

Students with more than 30 transferable semester hours, who have been out of high school for more than five years, or who have completed core-level math and English are not required to submit test scores. However, if you do not fall into one of those categories, Georgia Southern may require test scores based on your high school GPA.

If you have earned less than 30 hours, you must submit your final high school transcript.

If you have 30 transferable credit hours, you are not required to live on campus. If you have earned less than 30 credit hours, review the First-Year Live-On-Campus Requirement exemption list.

If you have ever attended college after high school graduation, you must apply as a transfer student, and the University System of Georgia requires us to evaluate all of your attempted transferable hours. Failure to disclose institutions may result in issues while enrolling in Georgia Southern.

If you are not eligible for admission at this time, we have various pathways and options to help you reach your goal of attending Georgia Southern.

We recommend that you focus on completing transferable general education courses. Review Georgia Southern’s Core Curriculum Requirements and Transfer Course Equivalencies to see if the courses you plan to take may transfer over to a similar course at Georgia Southern.

Reference our Transfer Course Equivalencies for assistance. In order to use this tool, select the institution where you plan to take the course, then look under the subject of the corequisite course that you need. Math courses with the “AMAT” attribute should satisfy the requirements for Math and English courses, and the “AENG” attribute should satisfy the requirements for English.
