What You’ll Learn

The core of the program provides a broad base in areas essential for all higher education administration professionals. You’ll study the history of higher ed, its legal environment, student development and the principles of administration. 

From here, you develop additional expertise by choosing from electives in areas like finance, community colleges, higher education policy, globalization and instructional design to strengthen your résumé and prepare for more specialized roles. 

During a capstone practicum, you’ll undertake a project applying what you’ve learned in a higher ed context related to your career goals, building real experience and benefiting from the mentorship of a seasoned professional.

The M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration program is open to applications from those holding a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale). Provisional admissions may be extended to applicants with a GPA below 2.75.

To apply, please submit:

  • An online application. (There is a $50 non-refundable application fee.)
  • A statement of purpose indicating your reasons for pursuing graduate study and how admission to this program relates to your professional goals.
  • A résumé or CV.
  • All “Disclosure and Affirmation” statements, which address the Code of Ethics for Educators and the need for tort liability insurance. These acknowledgments are represented by a section in the online application that you will initial.
  • A final transcript showing completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, in addition to transcripts for all prior graduate-level work. Copies can be uploaded with your application; official copies sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions will be required for admitted students.
