Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Concentration

Transform manufacturing processes by learning how to design and develop innovative technology to optimize manufacturing operations. Your courses will focus on robotics, nanomanufacturing, automation and more.

Engineering Management Concentration

Emphasizing collective and critical thinking in product innovation, this concentration prepares you for leadership roles in manufacturing management and product design. You’ll study international manufacturing, facilities design, environmental law and much more.

Follow this link and initiate an online application. The cost for the application is $50. After completing this online form, the application must be supported by transcripts, GRE scores, two letters of recommendation, and a statement of your career goals and research interests. International students should submit scores from the TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language), and have transcripts evaluated by World Education Services (WES).

Apply as a Graduate Student

Regular Admission

  • Completed requirements for the bachelor’s degree at a college or university accredited by an appropriate institutional accreditor.
  • An undergraduate degree or the equivalent in the proposed or closely related field of study.
  • A 2.75 (4.0 scale) cumulative grade point average or higher on courses in undergraduate work, or equivalent.
  • International students must meet College of Graduate Studies English Proficiency requirements.

Additional Requirement for Advanced Manufacturing Engineering concentration

The Master of Science in Manufacturing Engineering program with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering concentration also requires: a) a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, and b) permission of the Graduate Program Director.

Provisional Admission

A student may be granted provisional admission based upon the recommendation of the Master of Science in Manufacturing Engineering Graduate Coordinator or department chair.

Non-Degree Admission

Non-degree students are accepted on an individual basis as space is available.

What is the difference in requirements for thesis versus non-thesis?

A thesis is research that should “extend the art or science” and must be formally submitted to the College of Graduate Studies (COGS) for publication. The thesis is defended orally to a review committee at the candidate’s final comprehensive examination, which must be scheduled and announced formally through the COGS. Thesis must follow the COGS guidelines and we recommend the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing be used for the MSMfgE thesis.

Non-thesis candidates must complete an applied engineering research project and document their results following one of the common technical journal publication standards (ASME, IEEE, SME, etc). We recommend the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers as a source of writing technique. The project is also defended orally to a review committee at the candidate’s final comprehensive examination, but is not formally submitted to the COGS.

I have a BA degree. Can I still apply for an MSAE?

Yes. There are BA undergraduates who have chosen to pursue their Master of Science in Manufacturing Engineering. While it is required that you have a 4 year degree from an accredited College or University, you are not required to have a BS or BT.

How long does it take to obtain an MSAE?

It depends on how many courses you take a semester. The typical course load for a full time graduate student is about 3 to 4 classes (9 to 12 credit hours) per semester. At this rate, it is possible to finish your degree in 3 to 4 semesters.

Where is the campus located?

Georgia Southern’s Statesboro campus is located in Statesboro, GA about 45 minutes from Savannah and 3 hours from Atlanta.

Do you offer online courses?

Yes. Online courses are available for the Master of Science in Manufacturing Engineering and more are being added at this time.

Does Georgia Southern offer a doctorate degree in applied engineering?

No, Georgia Southern does not offer a doctorate degree in manufacturing engineering at this time.
