What You’ll Learn
In the program’s initial stages, you’ll examine the challenges and opportunities of teaching in a multicultural classroom, cultivating sensitivity to the needs of each unique learner. You’ll also sharpen your analytical skills and explore current trends and issues in education research.
Then, you’ll focus on enhancing your approach to assessments, curriculum design, teaching and supporting student performance. You’ll consider the process of decision-making for improving curricula and programs and deepen your knowledge of how K-12 pupils absorb and retain information.
With nine hours of electives, you can add an endorsement to tailor your training further.

The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction program is open to those with a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) for all previous undergraduate and graduate coursework.
You must also possess a valid Level 4 or higher Induction, Professional, Advanced Professional or Lead Professional teaching certificate, leadership certificate, service field certificate or Life certificate.
To apply, please complete the online application. (There is a $50 nonrefundable application fee.)
International transcripts must be evaluated by a NACES-accredited evaluation service and must be a course-by-course evaluation and include a GPA.
Application Deadline
Students are admitted to begin the program in the fall, spring and summer terms. The application deadlines are:
Fall – Aug. 1
Spring – Dec. 15
Summer – May 1
Your application and all required documents must be received by the deadline.
Provisional Admission
Applicants may be approved for provisional admission based on the quality of the admission material presented. Provisional students must earn grades of “B” or higher in their first nine (9) hours of coursework after admission and meet any other stipulations outlined by the department to be converted to regular status.

The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction program is approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) as a program leading to certification in Curriculum and Instruction.
The Department of Elementary and Special Education anticipates that graduates of the M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction program will be eligible to seek professional certification by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission as a certified teacher in Curriculum and Instruction.
The Department of Elementary and Special Education has determined the required classes and educational activities of these academic programs qualify a graduate of this program to take the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators® (GACE) exam for Curriculum and Instruction certification in Georgia. The Department has not determined whether these programs satisfy the requirements of all states and territories for certification in Curriculum and Instruction.
