The Instructional Technology certificate is structured for those who currently hold a valid level 5 or higher induction, professional, advanced professional or lead professional teaching certificate, leadership certificate, service field certificate or life certificate.

What Can You Do With an Instructional Technology Certificate?
Education professionals who hold a graduate-level instructional technology certificate are qualified for a number of roles that integrate technology and education. Whether you choose to work in K-12 schools, higher education, consulting, or curriculum development, you’ll be focused on using technology and digital media to make learning more effective, engaging and accessible.
Common career paths include media specialist, technology specialist, distance/online learning coordinator, learning management system administrator and educational technology consultant, but this field is continuing to grow with plenty of opportunity ahead.
What You’ll Learn
The program helps you develop a vision for the use of technology to promote excellence and support transformational change throughout educational organizations. Your coursework will train you in the knowledge and skills to create effective digital learning environments for all students, including those with diverse needs.
You’ll study digital tools and resources, information fluency, data analysis, instructional design, educational needs and more. The program concludes with a practicum in instructional technology, where you’ll apply your knowledge and gain field experience to complete your preparation for the certification exam.

Follow these steps to complete the Georgia Southern application:
- Visit our website for the College of Graduate Studies. Complete the requested information and create a login name and password.
- Follow this link and initiate an on-line application. The cost for the application is $50. After completing this on-line form, the application must be supported by transcripts, GRE scores, two letters of recommendation, and a statement of your career goals and research interests. International students should submit scores from the TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language), and have transcripts evaluated by World Education Services (WES).
Admission Requirements
- Complete requirements for a master’s degree in education from a college or university accredited by an appropriate institutional accreditor.
- Possess or be eligible for a valid Georgia level five or higher Induction, Professional, Advanced Professional, or Lead Professional teaching certificate, leadership certificate, service field certificate, or Life certificate, or possess an equivalent out-of-state level five or higher certificate. Candidates who have completed all requirements for the Georgia level five teaching certificate have until the end of the first semester to obtain the certificate. Candidates with an out-of-state certificate will not receive Georgia certification upon program completion.
- Present a cumulative 2.50 (4.0 scale) grade point average or higher on all undergraduate and graduate work combined.
- Submit a completed “Disclosure and Affirmation Form” that addresses misconduct disclosure, criminal background check, the Code of Ethics for Educators, and tort liability insurance.

Apply as a Graduate StudentThe Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development anticipates that graduates of the Certificate program in Instructional Technology will be eligible to seek professional certification by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission as a certified teacher/leader in Instructional Technology.
