A lot more goes into construction than just building. As a student majoring in construction at Georgia Southern, you’ll learn everything it takes to successfully manage a building project — starting long before a shovel ever goes into the ground.
From sourcing materials to testing systems, construction managers work with architects, engineers, estimators, inspectors, laborers and lawyers. In studying toward this pathway, you prepare to collaborate with each professional, gaining the flexibility to solve problems when they come up and understanding how to keep projects moving forward.
You’ll also acquire a specialization in one of the following areas: construction estimating and scheduling, building information modeling (BIM), project cost analysis, green and sustainable construction, project management, construction safety or construction equipment.
Ongoing labs, competitions and participation in student groups, internships and co-ops give you the experience you need to be a vital asset on the job site the minute you graduate.

What You’ll Learn
A successful construction manager needs to understand math, science, business and management. Your degree covers all those subjects and more. As a student in the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing, you’ll take technical classes in topics such as remote sensing, surveying and working with various materials, like soil and concrete. Coursework in critical concerns such as safety and codes also ensures that you mesh technical proficiency with practical needs.
And because money is always an object, you will also become adept at devising cost estimates, project accounting and more.
By the time you graduate, you’ll have developed a mix of communication, management and leadership skills that successful managers draw on daily.
