About the Computer Science Program
Get ready for a high-pay, high-demand career with a computer science degree. Work with accomplished faculty who can prepare you for a future that’s yours for the taking.
What You’ll Learn
As a student in Georgia Southern’s bachelor’s in computer science program, you’ll prepare to face computing challenges in business, finance, manufacturing and other industries — and acquire the technical and problem-solving skills needed to build solutions. In addition to classes in programming, databases, algorithms, calculus, ethics and other foundational elements, you’ll get a close-up look at specialized topics, including graphics and animation, artificial intelligence and data mining.
See the CurriculumConcentrations
Complete three electives in a single discipline to earn an optional certificate in one of five focus areas — proof to employers that you know your stuff.
Big Data and Analytics
Banks, hospitals, retailers and other organizations have more data than ever at their fingertips. Before using it, though, they need to understand it. Help organizations collect, manage and find meaning in the vast troves of information they work with every day.
Broadband and Mobile Systems
These days, there’s not much distinction between “computing” and “mobile computing” — users expect to do whatever they want, wherever they are. Learn the skills you need to manage broadband and optical networks, wireless and mobile systems and more.
Game Programming
Video gaming is a bigger business than movies and sports combined. A certificate in game programming from Georgia Southern gives you the skills to create, code and animate computer and video games.
Network and Computer Security
We live our lives online — and hackers and thieves are lying in wait. Network and computer security experts look for loopholes and build safeguards to protect our data and money from people who shouldn’t have it.
Software Engineering
The best software isn’t just powerful; it works seamlessly. Learn the fundamentals of human-computer interaction, quality assurance and all the skills needed to create interfaces, apps and programs people want to use.
Build Your Experience
Careers in computer science are all about doing, and so is a Georgia Southern education. While you’re here, you’ll have a chance to take your learning outside of class, building valuable skills along the way.
Explore New Frontiers
As a student in our computer science program, you won’t just conduct research alongside faculty — you could also be paid for your contributions. Work on projects involving game programming, robotics, machine learning and AI.
Eat, Sleep and Live Tech
Go all-in on computer science when you live in our Innovation Living & Learning Community. Surround yourself with others as into the field as you while also getting opportunities to network and collaborate.
Get Involved
Join student chapters of professional groups such as the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Women in Technology and more.
