What You’ll Learn

In the Georgia Southern BFA program, you’ll cultivate your technical skills across art disciplines—such as painting, sculpture, and digital media—while deepening your understanding of art’s cultural impact. Our curriculum emphasizes foundational techniques as well as creative concept development, giving you space to refine your unique point of view. You’ll gain critical analysis and problem-solving skills, equipping you to engage with the ever-evolving art landscape.

Art students at Georgia Southern host organizations like Club Mud Savannah, Fiber Arts Club at Armstrong, the Come Smell the Roses Society and many more, allow you to meet other students while you dive deeper into your passion — or develop a new one.

Our studios are equipped with the technologies and tools you’ll need to be on the creative edge, including 3D printers, laser engravers and cutters, a foundry, kilns and more.

Your portfolio speaks to your talent. Show employers your potential with the materials you develop during your Artist in Studio and your Senior Practicum, self-driven classes that draw upon all your skills and vision.

Take Action

Follow these steps to complete the Georgia Southern application: 

  • Create an application account.
  • Complete our online application using the PIN you received after creating your application account.
  • Once complete, pay the $30 application fee or upload a valid fee waiver. Previous Georgia Southern applicants and dual enrollment students do not need to pay the fee.

The Georgia Southern University Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art is proud to be home to art galleries in both Statesboro and Savannah. 

Center for Art & Theatre

The Betty Foy Sanders Georgia Artists Gallery and the Smith Callaway Banks Georgia Folk Art Gallery show two of the Department’s permanent collections. Student, alumni, visiting artist, and faculty exhibitions are shown in the University and Contemporary Galleries.

Fine Arts Gallery 

The Fine Arts Gallery has about 10 exhibitions per academic year, including faculty and student shows, three annual open exhibition times and the annual Georgia U.S. 1st Congressional District Juried High School Exhibition.
