Army ROTC Scholarships pay for Tuition and Fees OR Room and Board and also include $1200 annual book allowance ($600 per semester). These benefits do not go into effect until the Cadet has met all of the remaining medical, physical, and administrative requirements and has signed his/her contract. Once contracted, Cadets also receive a monthly stipend of $420.
Scholarships are awarded two ways — National List and Campus-Based.
National List Scholarships
National List 4YR and 3YR Advance Designee (3AD) Scholarships are offered to High School students who intend to enroll in ROTC at a 4-Year College. Selections are based on High School GPA, SAT/ACT scores, athletics, extracurricular activities, and a personal interview. Applications are typically due in January of your Senior year of high school, and scholarship awardees are notified through May 1. National List applicants are encouraged to apply early.
National List Scholarship Application
Requirements
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be between the ages of 17 and 26
- Have a high school GPA of at least 2.5
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Score a minimum of 1000 on the SAT (Math/Verbal) or 19 on the ACT (Note: Georgia Southern University’s admission requirements are higher.)
- Meet physical standards
- Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army as an Active Duty, National Guard, or Reserve Officer.
Campus Based Scholarships
Cadets who were not selected for National List Scholarships can still earn Campus-Based Scholarships once they have enrolled in ROTC. These scholarships are awarded based on many of the same criteria as the National List, but they also include your performance once you have enrolled in ROTC. College academics, Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) scores, leadership potential, and evaluations by Cadre are all considered.
Campus-Based Scholarships are most often awarded as 2YR and 3YR scholarships.
While Cadet Command’s minimum GPA is a 2.5 to receive a scholarship, the Eagle Battalion typically does not submit students for Campus-Based Scholarships with less than a 3.0 GPA and a 250 APFT score.
