The specific training you receive in our dual certification program will better prepare you to meet the diverse needs of young learners. You’ll also enjoy more career flexibility, as dual certifications can qualify you for future roles in special education and administration or lay a foundation for advanced education.
Georgia Southern’s B.S.Ed Elementary and Special Education P-5 program trains you for initial certification. You’ll study how elementary-aged children develop and learn—including students with various disabilities—and build skills for teaching, guiding, and supporting young learners. The program immerses you in multiple public school classrooms so you gain real-world experience and develop classroom confidence, even before your capstone student teaching semester.
Upon completing the program, you’ll be well-prepared to sit for the Dual Certification GACE exam and qualify for Georgia’s P-5 teacher Induction certification as a general education teacher and a special education teacher.

The Georgia Southern University Office of Undergraduate Admissions oversees the application process for undergraduate students.
