Scholarships

Robert B. Baker Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis each year to outstanding traditional students who are athletes majoring in Civil Engineering. Recipients must be enrolled full-time and must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Financial need, extracurricular activities, school and community involvement and prior work experience will be considered when making the selection. Awards will be made without regard to race, religion, gender or area of residency. Should no student athlete majoring in Civil Engineering qualify for the scholarship in a given year, it may be offered to a student athlete majoring in any Engineering program. Should no student athletes be available, the scholarship will be given to students who meet the original criteria.

Hussey, Gay, Bell and DeYoung Civil Engineering  Scholarship

Award is available to junior or senior level students majoring in Civil Engineering. Students must be residents of South Georgia or South Carolina. The scholarship committee may invite a representative of Hussey, Gay, Bell and DeYoung to sit on the selection committee.

Stuber-EMC Scholarship Civil Engineering  Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis each year to a deserving student or students majoring in Civil Engineering. Each applicant must be at the junior or senior level during the award period. Each applicant must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and be a full-time student at the time of application and must maintain the GPA or better and maintain full-time status during the award period. Each applicant must be of high moral character and must be considered a leader among his or her peers. Scholarships will be awarded without regard to age, gender, race, marital status, area of residency or religious preference. Should all other factors prove equal, financial need will be the deciding factor.

Grinnell Technology Scholarship

Award available to full-time sophomore, junior, or senior students majoring in civil, electrical, mechanical or manufacturing engineering with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Ernest W. and Audrey M. Hartsell Engineering Scholarship

The scholarship is open to students majoring in any field of engineering at any class level.

F. Everett Williams Scholarship

Award available to students majoring in civil, electrical, mechanical or manufacturing engineering or construction management.  Students must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need.  First preference will be given to students from Bulloch County.

Stephen G. Moore Scholarship

Award available to full-time students majoring in engineering.  After financial need has been established, students are selected based on academic record, personal character, demonstrated talents and motivating interests.

Cap Mallard Scholarship

Award is to be offered to a rising senior majoring in Construction Management with the highest grade point average.

Home Builders Association of Statesboro Scholarship

Applicants must demonstrate a genuine vocational or professional interest in the home building industry.  Applicants must be majoring in Construction Management.  The recipient shall be required to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in major subjects and at least an overall 2.5 GPA.  Financial need should be a factor and the student must be enrolled full time.

William Jones Lane, Sr. Scholarship

Students applying for this scholarship must be majoring in Construction Management.  Students must have taken at least 12 semester hours or three courses within the program with a C or better.  Students must be enrolled full time at the time they receive the award and maintain full-time enrollment throughout the award period.  Students who are in their senior year or in an internship are eligible.  Students must have and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better.  Selection will be made without regard to age, race, gender, area of residency, marital status or religious preference.  Should all other factors be considered equal, financial need will be the determining factor.

Ray M. Wright Scholarship Fund of the Home Builders Association of Columbus

Applicants must be majoring in Construction Management and must demonstrate a genuine vocational or professional interest in the home building industry.  Applicants must have at least a 2.75 cumulative grade point average and must submit two letters of recommendation as well as a brief statement of his/her commitment to the industry.  Financial need must be demonstrated and the students must be enrolled full time when the scholarship is received and throughout the award period.

Golden Hammer Scholarship

Award available to students majoring in Construction Management.  Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and may be at any class level.  Students must have completed three CM courses with a C or better.

Construction Management Alumni Scholarship

Award available to full-time freshman or sophomore students majoring in Construction Management.  Students must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or a minimum transferring college or state university GPA of 2.5.  Funds are awarded after completion of one semester at Georgia Southern while maintaining a GPA of 2.0 as a full-time student.

Ellis Cartee Endowment

Available to junior- or senior-level students majoring in Construction Management.  First preference is given to students from Bulloch County.  Second preference should go to students from Candler County.  Should no recipient be found, the scholarship may be awarded to students majoring in Civil Engineering from Bulloch or Candler County.  Should no recipients be found, the scholarship may be awarded to any deserving student majoring in Construction Management.

Alex Futch Memorial Scholarship

The recipient must have a minimum overall non-adjusted GPA of 3.0.  The student must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of Construction Management courses.

American Society of Civil Engineers

The Georgia Southern Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers provides service-learning, networking, and research opportunities for students in College of Engineering and Computing civil engineering program.

Dr. Cubas is elected to serve as the faculty advisor and Drs. Nam and Scott are serving as the assistant faculty advisors for the ASCE student chapter @ Georgia Southern.

Construction Student Organizations

Sigma Lambda Chi

Construction majors who excel academically may qualify for the student chapter of Sigma Lambda Chi — the International Construction Honor Society.

Construction Management Guild

All Construction majors are strongly encouraged to join and be active in the CM Guild, the student organization for Construction majors that promotes professionalism and connects students with professional organizations such as the AGC, ASC Student Competitions, NAHB, NUCA, USGBC, and other important construction groups.
