Twenty countries call Spanish their official language. Across the globe, more people speak it as their first language than any other, except Mandarin Chinese. And when you explore its grammar, structure and nuances, you won’t just gain fluency: You’ll also expand your perspective of the cultures, art, politics, music, literature, religions and history that make up a huge part of the planet.
At Georgia Southern University, our Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in World Languages and Cultures program encourages you to build upon your Spanish studies with a second major or minor. So when you graduate, you’ll be able to put your understanding of a new language and culture to use in several industry contexts — including translation and interpreting, marketing and analysis in business, connecting with audiences as a journalist, and dozens of other roles in multiple areas such as health, education, diplomacy, the military and criminal justice, to mention a few.
These skills don’t just make you a more well-rounded person — they also make you a better job candidate.
As Dr. Ruiz-Funes, Department Chair and Professor, stated, “With today’s rapidly evolving global interdependence, proficiency in Spanish is not just an asset — it is a necessity!”
