Enrollment Checklist

As you prepare to enroll at Georgia Southern, make sure to review your enrollment checklist below. This will ensure you are prepared to start your journey by the first day of classes!

Review Your Holds, Requirements and Schedule

  • Review our FERPA Policy to ensure your records are shared appropriately. Be sure to approve any connections with supporters that you want to have access to your student records.
  • Ensure that you have reviewed your course schedule. You will receive directions on how to do this during your required virtual SOAR modules.
  • Review any holds that are on your account through MyGS → WINGS.

Are You In-State or Out-of-State?

  • Make sure you have verified your state residency (in-state or out-of-state). This includes verifying lawful presence! Check your status via MyGS Portal → WINGS→ Holds. 
  • Think you qualify for in-state tuition? Check to see if any of our tuition waivers apply to you.

Lock in Your Payment Method

  • Review the fee payment deadlineyour payment options, and add an authorized user to allow access to your account to make payments.
  • Make sure to set up your refund preference.
  • Are you using financial aid to pay for your bill? Review your award through your MyGS Portal. Make sure you have met all requirements so you can be awarded your aid and it can be applied to your account.
  • Using military benefits to pay for your tuition? Apply now! You can only apply for benefits once you are registered for classes.
  • Sign up for our Payment Plan **Please note that this payment plan only allows for a maximum of $4500 to be paid monthly throughout the semester. 
  • Using external scholarships or a college savings plan (529) to pay for your balance? Fall invoices will be sent via email to your student email address and the authorized user email address.

Cards, Passes and Textbooks, Oh My!

  • Get your Parking Pass 
  • Get your Eagle Card. Eagle Card has moved to Eagle Card Mobile ID. Please ensure you have your Eagle Card Mobile ID (your Georgia Southern University identification) active before you arrive for SOAR. The process to activate your Eagle Card Mobile ID is easy! Just download the Transact eAccounts app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, log in with your My.GeorgiaSouthern.edu credentials, then click the gear icon in the top right corner of the app to find the “Submit ID Photo” link. Submit your photo from there and once it’s approved, you can push your Eagle Card Mobile ID to your phone’s wallet.   • Make sure you review all information about Day1 Access as this will charge your account automatically if you do not choose to opt out of the program.

Resources & Responsibilities

  • Complete Virtual SOAR Modules (Modules become available to students on the following dates based upon entry term):
    • February 1st – Spring 2025 Minimester II
    • May 1st – Summer 2025
    • June 1st – Fall 2025 Transfer/Adult/Fully Online Students
    • July 1st – Fall 2025 First-Time Freshman
    • More information on these modules will be sent to you via email once available to you.
  • Review the Student Code of Conduct and check out a session to get more information about your responsibilities as an Eagle.
  • Complete the required AlcoholEdu and Sexual Assault Prevention Modules by the first day of classes. Students who complete these modules will be entered into a drawing for a free parking pass for the year.

Incoming Freshman Students
Enrollment Checklist

  • Register for SOAR.
  • Activate your MyGS Portal and review personal information! Make sure your full name, preferred name, mailing address, and phone number are correct to receive the most up-to-date information.
  • Indicate your intention to live on campus by submitting your housing application online through your MyGS portal or apply for a housing exemption.

  • Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to get access to federal financial aid.
  • If you are not submitting a FAFSA and want to apply for State Aid only, submit your application for HOPE/Zell Miller eligibility through GAFutures.org (GA Residents).
  • Check out other state aid programs.

  • Access your GS Email – this is how we will communicate information to you about your requirements and other helpful information. Please check it daily!
  • Complete the Schedule Preference Form.  Available in mid-October for Spring Admits and mid-March for Summer & Fall admits. More information will emailed out to students once this form is available.
  • Review your student dashboard for credit evaluation if you have prior college credit or AP classes. The student dashboard is located inside your MyGS Portal.
  • Review any HOLDS you may have on your account through MyGS → WINGS so a class schedule can be created for you.
  • Make sure to review your authorization of Title IV (federal) funds request to select if your balance can be paid by your federal aid.

  • Take any classes for college credit via a test or class in high school? Get your scores sent in for schedule creation. Official scores must be sent to Georgia Southern University directly.
  • Submit your final transcripts from your previous colleges with final grades. These should be requested through your previous college’s records office.

Incoming Transfer Students Enrollment Checklist

  • Register for SOAR.
  • Activate your MyGS Portal.
  • Make sure your full name, preferred name, mailing address, and phone number are correct to receive the most up-to-date information.

  • Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to get access to federal financial aid
  • Transfer Students with HOPE should make sure all final transcripts are submitted to Georgia Southern.  You may request to be reviewed for the HOPE Scholarship by reaching out to the Office of Financial Aid. HOPE cannot be applied to any student’s account that has outstanding grades from previous semesters.
  • Check out other state aid programs.
