Can I Get Credit for My Work Experience and Education?

Prior learning is learning gained through life or work outside structured higher educational courses such as those in business, the military, continuing education, certifications or other training experiences. Learn more about getting credit for prior learning.

PLA is a process through which students identify areas of relevant learning from their experiences or portfolio and submit  documentation for credit. Learn more about PLA.

Students who gain the level of knowledge of the learning outcomes of a specific course may get credit for that course, provided they can demonstrate proficiency in that specific course. You can take exams such as CLEP, AP, IB etc. Learn more about CPL.

The following tool is to help determine an estimated amount of college credit you may receive for your military experience. However, please be sure you visit the Joint Services Transcript site to request that your official Joint Service Transcript be sent to our Office of Admissions in order to receive formal credit.

The Office of Testing Services is part of the Academic Success Center and provides services to students, non-students and community members within the surrounding communities and are located on the Statesboro and Armstrong Campuses The testing offices administer numerous tests including testing for prior learning such as the ACCUPLACER, CLEP Exams among many others. The Academic Success Center (ASC) is Georgia Southern University’s inclusive, safe, and student-centered place for learning and growth. We provide tailored support services that empower, inspire, connect, and positively impact academic success.

Academic Renewal

Academic Renewal, sometimes referred to as academic forgiveness, can assist a student, who for one reason or another, struggled academically, left an institution, and now hopes to return to that same or a different institution.

Learning Support Program

The Learning Support Program provides students with additional support to develop skills in reading, composition, and/or mathematics. Students are enrolled in the Learning Support Program based on placement test results.

Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Office seeks to provide financial aid services which are accessible, sensitive to individual student needs, and effective in enabling students to bridge the gap between family resources and educational expenses. The delivery of services and financial aid awards will be characterized by timeliness, accuracy, and clarity, and will be accomplished through the simplest procedures consistent with fiscal responsibility and governmental and university regulations.

Tuition & Fees

Tuition and Fees charged by Georgia Southern University are approved by the University System of Georgia annually. Changes in tuition and fee rates are typically effective fall semester each year. Georgia Southern reserves the right to modify tuition rates and fees without prior notice and to make such modifications applicable to students currently enrolled at the University, as well incoming students. The tuition and fees provide an estimate of tuition, fees, housing, meals, books and supplies.
