As the fitness and health industries continue to grow at a significant pace, the demand for specialized training in physical activity and human performance is only increasing. Georgia Southern’s master’s in kinesiology program prepares you for a wide range of careers focused on helping people achieve their health and performance potential.
Our program gives you a deep understanding of human physiology, biomechanics, and the principles of exercise, as well as opportunities to work with faculty on a variety of research activities. Designed for flexibility, the program is offered in-person or online, with three different choices for study concentrations: exercise science, coaching education, and sport and exercise psychology. When you graduate, you’ll be ready to apply for ACSM, ASEP or NSCA certification.

What You’ll Learn
The master’s program in kinesiology focuses on the integration of theory, research and its application in sport, physical activity, exercise, well-being and educational settings. Graduate-level studies deepen your understanding of how the human body responds to exercise. Your core courses and academic path will vary depending on the concentration you choose, with the option to build expertise in exercise science, coaching education or sport and exercise psychology.
Finally, you will have the opportunity to participate in research activities emphasizing resistance training, nutrition and nutritional supplementation, respiratory health, energy production and utilization, gait analysis, fitness, energy expenditure of various physical activities and the interrelationship between exercise and disease.

Exercise Science
Designed for students interested in the biophysical aspects of exercise, this concentration equips graduates with the knowledge and skills to pursue advanced education, apply for ACSM, ASEP or NSCA certification or work within the health promotion and human performance industries.

Graduate Assistantships
Qualified program applicants may be awarded a graduate assistantship, which offers a tuition waiver and stipend. Responsibilities could include teaching various classes or programs, working in University Athletics, and/or assisting with faculty research.

Work one-on-one with faculty to conduct in-depth research and/or applied projects to enhance your personal and professional development.
Learning in the Lab
The Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology features a number of sophisticated teaching and research labs, where you can study human performance, biomechanics, food and nutrition, sport psychology and more.

- Visit our website for the College of Graduate Studies. Complete the requested information and create a login name and password.
- Follow this link and initiate an on-line application. The cost for the application is $50. After completing this on-line form, the application must be supported by transcripts, GRE scores, two letters of recommendation, and a statement of your career goals and research interests. International students should submit scores from the TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language), and have transcripts evaluated by World Education Services (WES).
