What You’ll Learn

Our broad-based bachelor’s in sport management program combines coursework specific to the field with a liberal arts education. Gain a well-rounded understanding of the humanities and fine arts, science, mathematics, technology and the social sciences — and acquire essential skills. As part of the sport management major, take seven core classes exploring finance, facility and event management, and legal issues. In addition, you’ll select a concentration, so you can zero in on a particular aspect of the industry.

In preparation to excel behind the scenes, this structure helps you understand the impact of sports on society, as well as the professional skills needed to orchestrate schedules, run venues, oversee athletes and build various media and business relationships.

Concentrations

On every team, different players have different roles. Likewise, in our program, sport management majors select whether they want to work in marketing, sport development or administration.

Sport Marketing and Revenue Generation

Build the marketing, branding, customer retention and sales techniques needed to enter the largest job sector in the sports industry. Courses cover brand management, consumer behavior, ticket and sponsorship sales and more.

Sport Development

Teams and athletic clubs — from Little League and schools to college and professional organizations — bring communities together and often become a force for change. In this concentration, coursework focuses on planning, research and policy development to help you harness the economic and social power of sports.

Athletic Administration

Combine elective courses from sport management and other related disciplines to chart your own path toward intercollegiate athletics or professional sports administration.

Internships

Sport management majors have the option to complete a full-time (480-hour) internship before graduation. Many of our students start at the top of the field: Previous placements have included Auburn University, the Atlanta Motor Speedway and the Kansas City Chiefs.
