Military Tuition Assistance

Prior to enrolling for courses, servicemembers utilizing any of the services of Federal Tuition Assistance programs should contact your servicing Educational Assistance Office for details on the program.

Navigating the tuition assistance program for your branch can be difficult. At Georgia Southern, we make it easier for you to know the benefits you deserve, and what you can expect at our university.

ArmyIgnitED

ArmyIgnitED, formerly known as GoArmyED, enables U.S. Army, (Active Duty, Reserves, and National Guard) enlisted soldiers to obtain a degree, associate, bachelor, and graduate, as well as technical certifications. After being approved, the Army will pay 100 percent of tuition, up to $250 per semester hour and similarly, $166 per quarter hour, with a maximum of $4,000 paid per fiscal year. Air Force Tuition Assistance & GEM

Currently, the Air Force will pay 100 percent of tuition, up to $250 per semester hour and $166 per quarter hour, with a maximum of $4,500 paid per fiscal year. Accordingly, this benefit is for off-duty courses with accredited, and approved, schools in pursuit of approved degree programs. Another benefit for Airwomen and Airmen is the General Education Mobile (GEM) program. Therefore, this enables the Airman or Airwoman to pursue up to 15 semester hours in general education courses. Navy Tuition Assistance

Sailors can receive Tuition Assistance (TA) for higher education and the Navy College Program for Afloat College Education (NCPACE). This benefit is for off-duty courses with accredited, and approved, schools in pursuit of approved degree programs. For instance, the Navy will pay 100 percent of tuition, up to $250 per semester hour, $166.67 per quarter hour, and $16.67 per clock hour with a maximum of $4,500 paid per fiscal year.

Sailors also have the opportunity for other, specialized, programs that are available while on active duty. These programs include the Civil Engineer Collegiate Program (CECP), and Nurse Candidate Program (NCP). Georgia Southern has approved programs that meet the requirements for each of these programs, and financial compensation could be provided to the student. Marines Tuition Assistance

Marines, like the other tuition assistance programs, use this benefit for off-duty courses with accredited, and approved, schools in pursuit of approved degree programs. Accordingly, the Marines will pay 100 percent of tuition, up to $250 per semester hour, $166.67 per quarter hour, and $16.67 per clock hour with a maximum of $4,500 paid per fiscal year.

Coast Guard Tuition Assistance

Coast Guardsman can receive Tuition Assistance of up to 100% of tuition with an annual cap of $4,500. Specifically, each semester hour cost cannot exceed $250, the quarter-hour cannot exceed $166.67, and clock hour limit is $16.67. This tuition assistance must be use at accredited and approved schools. Tuition assistance is for off-duty courses in pursuit of approved degree programs.

Space Force Tuition Assistance

Space Force tuition assistance is similar to the other branches. The maximum amount a Space professional can use per fiscal year is $4,500. With the limit per semester hour is $250, quarter-hour is $166.67, and $16.67 per clock hour. The Space Force is also authorized to use Air Force Cool for credentialing as well.

Georgia National Guard Service Cancellable Loan

Georgia National Guard members may be eligible for a Service Cancellable Loan. This loan is similar to a regular student loan, however, is repayable with an agreement to serve in the Georgia National Guard. Military Withdrawal Policy

Equally important, be aware of Georgia Southern University’s Military Withdrawal policy and process. Any military student who is attending classes at Georgia Southern and for instance, is called to active duty can receive a special Military Withdrawal.

The student completes a Withdrawal Form online, initiating the process. Those military students who are called to active duty would attach a copy of their orders to the completed withdrawal form. Once the withdrawal is approved, the student will receive WM (Withdrew Military) grades for their courses and a 100% refund. The WM (Withdrew Military) grades do not count towards the student’s academic GPA or the course withdrawal limit.
