What You’ll Learn
As an IT major, build a foundation in the basics of the field, taking classes in operating systems, IT infrastructure, database design, computer networks, cybersecurity and the latest emerging computing technologies such as artificial intelligence. In addition, you’ll get an overview of rapidly growing specialties, such as cybersecurity and e-commerce.
See the CurriculumConcentrations
All classes in our fully online program are asynchronous — meaning you can study when you want. And because you can choose one of three concentrations, you’ll also study what you want.
Cybersecurity
A world without cybersecurity would be like a bank without locks. In this concentration, you’ll learn how to build those locks (and even pick them in our Ethical Hacking class).
Data Science
Learn to find valuable insights hidden inside massive amounts of data and put that knowledge to work. Courses cover topics including data mining, data analytics, visualization, data management and programming that connect with the latest computing technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
Health Informatics
Understand how to secure and extract actionable insights from patient medical records through courses covering data analysis and visualization techniques alongside the healthcare field’s regulatory frameworks.
Time Well Spent
Before graduating, complete a 280-hour internship at a location approved and coordinated by Georgia Southern. You’ll work on real-world IT issues that let prospective employers know you have what it takes to solve their problems, too.
