Student Recognition Awards Call for Student Portfolios

Submission Requirements

This submission form must accompany your entry for each category. One submission form per student for each category.  Entries for all awards are to be submitted to the appropriate Google Drive folder. There is a folder for each category: WritingDesign/GraphicCampaign/Event PlanningResearchEntries are due by 5 p.m., Friday, March 8.
 Late entries will not be accepted.

The PR Advisory Board will review all submissions and select the winners in each category.

All submissions must be in a portfolio format. Students are encouraged to “self nominate” for all awards except the Student of the Year Award. PR faculty members will nominate candidates for the Student of the Year. All awards will be presented at the Communication Arts Department Banquet this spring:

Public Relations Writing:
Submit 5-8 writing samples. Samples may include, but are not limited to, news features, brochure copy, newsletter articles, communication plans, and web-based/social media writings. Preference will be given to published works and successfully implemented communication plans.

Public Relations Design / Graphic Communication:
Submit 5-7 samples. Samples may include, but are not limited to, newsletters, brochures, posters, advertisements, web pages, relevant social media images, logos, and design elements. Preference will be given to original designs

Public Relations Campaign / Event Planning or Implementation:
Submit plan/event overview and corresponding materials. Describe RACE (each component) of the plan and each team member’s contribution to the plan. Indicate if the plan was completed by a group or individual. If papers were completed by a group, all group members may be listed on the submission form and the award will be given to the entire group. If submitted for an individual award, documentation of student’s contribution to this plan / event will required to be considered.

Public Relations Research:
Submit 1-3 research papers and /or projects. Projects include both academic investigations and applied projects that contribute to our understanding of the role of public relations and communication. Preference will be given to original research papers or projects. If papers were completed by a group, all group members may be listed on the submission form and the award will be given to the entire group. If a group project is submitted for an individual award, documentation of student’s contribution to this research will required to be considered.

Public Relations Student of the Year:
(Faculty Nominations are required for consideration for PR Student of the Year.) Nominees will be notified and will submit their resume and portfolio. The portfolio should exhibit success in the following areas: (a) leadership and extra-curricular, (b) professional development, (c) academic works, and (d) academic or professional presentations.

Finalists for PR Student of the Year will be asked to complete an interview with advisory board members (Date: To Be Announced). Professional attire and student’s comprehensive/formal portfolio are expected at the interview.

All Awards will be presented at the Communication Arts Banquet to be held during the spring semester.

*Judges reserve the right to not grant a specific PR Award category if student entries do not meet acceptable criteria

*Also note: L.E.A.P. certification is a different program and it not included in this process.
