For Nihan Agacli Dogan, Ph.D., education has always been about empowerment. As the newest instructional designer in Georgia Southern University’s Office of Adult and Online Learning (AOL), she is committed to creating meaningful, engaging, and accessible learning experiences for students and faculty alike.
Dogan, who earned her Ph.D. in Educational Technology from the University of Florida, brings a decade of experience in teaching, research, and instructional design. She’s no stranger to Georgia Southern, having spent the past five years as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development.
“I’ve had the privilege of teaching Georgia Southern students, and I’ve seen firsthand the dedication and passion this community has for learning,” Dogan said. “I’m excited to take on this new role and contribute to expanding high-quality online and hybrid education opportunities.”
From Research to Real-World Impact
Dogan’s academic and professional journey has always been guided by a focus on how technology can enhance education. Her research explores the integration of technology in learning environments, instructional design strategies, and innovative teaching methodologies.
“My goal has always been to bridge the gap between theory and practice,” Dogan said. “Whether it’s designing a course or implementing new technologies, I aim to create solutions that are both effective and student-centered.”
Her experience spans K-12, higher education, and adult learning environments, giving her a versatile perspective on instructional design.
Empowering Faculty and Supporting Students
In her role at AOL, Dogan collaborates closely with faculty to design and adapt courses for online and hybrid formats. She emphasizes creating engaging and accessible experiences that meet the needs of diverse learners.
One of her key projects includes supporting the development of the online Bachelor of Science in Education (BSED) program in Special Education. “These programs prepare future educators to make a difference in their communities, and I’m honored to play a part in their success,” she said.
Dogan also provides training and resources for faculty, helping them navigate the complexities of online course design. From selecting the right tools to ensuring accessibility compliance, she’s a trusted partner in the process.
“Online learning is a collaborative effort,” Dogan said. “By working together, we can create courses that not only meet academic standards but also foster connection and engagement.”
Looking Ahead
As Georgia Southern continues to expand its online and hybrid offerings, Dogan is eager to help shape the future of education at the university.
“Online learning is more than just a way to deliver content—it’s an opportunity to reimagine how we teach and learn,” she said. “I’m thrilled to be part of a team that’s driving innovation and making education accessible to more students.”
With her expertise and passion, Dogan is poised to make a significant impact on Georgia Southern’s mission to provide transformative learning experiences for all. Faculty are welcome to reach out for collaboration opportunities with Dogan and the AOL team to learn more about enhancements offered to online learning at Georgia Southern.
