Attending SOAR, Georgia Southern’s orientation is your required first step before enrolling in classes. This program, offered both online and in-person, equips you with the tools you’ll need to thrive. SOAR allows you to gain a better understanding of campus life, engage with your academic advisor, and connect with fellow students, ensuring a smooth transition to becoming a Georgia Southern Eagle.

SOAR Session Dates, Times and Registration Fees

Students are required to attend a SOAR session, in its entirety, to receive and retain a course schedule. For convenience, sessions are offered both in-person and virtually based on student preference.

Students are required to attend a SOAR session, in its entirety, to receive and retain a course schedule. For convenience, sessions are offered both in-person and virtually. Spring 2025 SOAR sessions are half-day (5 hours) sessions and students should plan on attending for the duration of their desired session. Spring 2025 SOAR registration is now open.

In-Person

  • Friday, January 10th (8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m)

Virtual

  • Thursday, December 12th (4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.)

*Full term & Minimester I courses begin on January 13, 2025.
*Minimester II courses begin on March 10, 2025.

  • Guest – $10/guest (In-Person); Free (Virtual)

  1. Log into My.GeorgiaSouthern.edu. If you have never accessed your MyGeorgiaSouthern account, please click “First Time User” to register before being able to log in.
  2. Click SOAR on the New Student Resources tile, then follow the instructions to register and pay for your session.

Your Commitment

Students that have been admitted into fully online programs demonstrate to Georgia Southern an intent to enroll by registering for SOAR. This date of this SOAR session is set to the first day of classes; however students in fully online programs do not attend a formal SOAR event. Once you register, your academic advisement team will be notified and inform you of next steps specific to your program. There is no fee to register for SOAR. Spring 2025 SOAR registration is now open.

Follow these instructions to commit to Georgia Southern:

  1. Log into My.GeorgiaSouthern.edu. If you have never accessed your MyGeorgiaSouthern account, please click “First Time User” to register before being able to log in.
  2. Click SOAR on the New Student Resources tile, then follow the instructions to commit to Georgia Southern. 

Important Additional Instructions for Fully Online Students

  • Complete your commitment to Georgia Southern by officially registering for the fully online programs SOAR through your My.GeorgiaSouthern.edu account. Once logged in, locate the New Student Resources tab, and click on “SOAR”.
  • Complete “New Student Pre-Flight Modules” in the New Student Resources section of MyGeorgiaSouthern portal. All modules are required. You do not have to complete it all at once – you can pause your progress, and your information will be saved, allowing you to return at any time.
  • Submit the FAFSA – If you want to be considered for federal or state student aid, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
  • Complete the Schedule Preference Form! Within 3-4 business days after you commit to Georgia Southern through your SOAR reservation, keep an eye out for an email regarding the Schedule Preference Form. This form will start the process of getting a class schedule and connecting with your academic advisor. Please note that the Schedule Preference Form does not become available for Spring 2025 students until mid-October. For those signing up for SOAR before that time, they will be send the Preference Form via email once it becomes available.
