What You’ll Learn
The master’s in kinesiology, coaching education concentration follows the National Standards for Sport Coaches curriculum recommendations.
Beginning with a course in research methods, you’ll learn how to conduct empirical investigations in sports coaching and how to access and assess literature for evidence-based insights to improve your practice. You’ll then examine coaching’s sociocultural, scientific and psychological dimensions.
Applying this background knowledge, you’ll learn to create effective training and conditioning programs and explore administrative issues, the dynamics of learning and teaching, and injury prevention, recognition and care.
A practicum reinforces these concepts and relates them to all areas of a coach’s responsibilities. During this assignment, faculty and a field supervisor will discuss your progress and provide feedback.

Applicants for the M.S. in Kinesiology, Coaching Education concentration must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) for the last 60 credit hours completed. You must be coaching while in the program.
To apply, please submit:
- An online application. (There is a $50 non-refundable application fee.)
- Transcripts for all prior college- and graduate-level work. Copies can be uploaded with your application; official copies sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions will be required for admitted students.
- A curriculum vitae or résumé that includes the following:
- Work history
- Professional experiences
- Membership and participation in professional organizations
- Other experiences related to this program
- Contact information for a minimum of three references
Application Deadlines
All admitted students begin the program in the summer. The deadline for application is April 29.
Your application and all required documents must be received by the deadline.
Provisional Admission
Provisional admission will be considered for those with a minimum 2.50 (4.0 scale) undergraduate GPA for the last 60 credit hours.

The master’s in kinesiology, coaching education concentration stands upon an extensive legacy of quality in-person instruction that transitioned to online learning. Georgia Southern launched the program in 1998, and in 2007, it shifted to an entirely online curriculum. Throughout, full-time faculty with coaching experience have taught all courses, infusing lessons with their insights from the field.

Many of the clinical programs offered by the Waters College of Health Professions require a clinical internship or practicum experience to fulfill degree requirements. Pursuant to the University’s legal agreements, participants in clinical experiences are required to abide by the workplace rules of the clinical site. The University is aware of recent federal requirements that would mandate vaccination against COVID-19 for those working in certain settings, including health care. At this time, we expect that these new requirements may significantly impact our ability to locate a placement for students who remain unvaccinated. As always, WCHP will continue to make every effort to place students at clinical sites. However, please be aware that we may be unable to locate a site to accept unvaccinated students, which may cause a delay or inability to progress and complete the program of study.
