Finance Association Trip to Federal Reserve Atlanta
Twenty students participated in the group’s visit to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. They learned about the structure of the Federal Reserve System, the characteristics of each regional Federal Reserve Bank and the roles they play in the monetary policy, toured the “Money Museum”, saw the cash room where money comes into the FED and visited the Board Room in which the Board of Directors for the Atlanta FED meet.
The members and advisors of the Finance Association would like to thank Mrs. Audrey Williams from the Federal Reserve for all her help organizing the visit as well as the Parker College of Business Dean’s Office and the Department of Finance and Economics for their financial support.
Finance Association Helps DSDA’s Home For Heroes
The Finance Association has joined the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority (DSDA) in their Homes For Heroes project. In the inaugural year of the project, the DSDA along with the Finance Association plans to develop affordable homes for firefighters and police officers in the downtown area and simultaneously help develop the poverty stricken neighborhoods around Main Street. The DSDA purchased three corner homes right off of East Main Street that were built in the 1940s but have not been maintained. The homes were littered with trash and debris, including furniture, countless empty bottles and food containers. Over the course of two weekends the Finance Association devoted their Saturday and Sunday to help entirely clean out the houses and prepare them for construction. The next step will be renovating and updating the houses to make them livable and desirable homes for the heroes of the community and to set them at an affordable price that will allow the DSDA and their sponsors to continue this project in the long-term.

Investment Strategy
The fund follows a long-only strategy of value investing in stocks of mid-to-large market capitalization. Value investing involves buying underpriced stocks trading below their intrinsic value. We identify value stocks as those that sell at a discount versus their own intrinsic value as well as the median stock in the respective industry. Additionally, we focus on those underpriced stocks whose fundamentals are above their industry median. The goal of the fund is to continuously outperform Vanguard Value Index as well as the S&P 500 index. Below, we provide a more specific explanation of our investment strategy including a description of the main financial variables utilized in our analysis.
