Statesboro Campus

Eagle News 97

The ability to produce original, televised programming enhances the broadcast academic experience and gives students a rare opportunity to work first-hand in similar environments to the ones they will face when entering the workforce. Best Practices, high ethical standards in Broadcast Journalism/Production, and the curriculum-based applicable opportunities on hand at Channel 97 make the academic broadcast experience here at Georgia Southern University particularly valuable to the viability of our students in the job market.

The student staff for Channel 97 News produces one newscast per week. Aired programming is graded course work, and openings at Channel 97 are listed in the University Course Catalog as BRCT 4090, Video Applications, and requires special approval by Broadcast Faculty.

In addition to news and original student programming, Channel 97 airs programming from Satellite Communications for Learning Association (SCOLA) which is a non-profit, international satellite service of news and entertainment, and the Classic Arts Showcase. Programming airs in various languages.

Channel 97 is a working collaborative effort between the City of Statesboro and Georgia Southern University.

Theatre South

If Georgia Southern University’s theatre program is a super hero, then Theatre South is its sidekick.

Theatre South is an open student group that accepts members from all majors. The students host guest artists and run workshops on various theatre topics from improv, to dance, to audition skills and building a resume.  Students are also encouraged to use this time to work scenes and monologs with their peers.  Theatre South also helps promote productions,  hosts Wham! Bam! Play Slam! and produces a 10-minute play festival in the spring where students write, direct, and act.
