Program Overview
The Eagle Engineering Ambassadors (EEA) program is a mentorship based program involving Georgia Southern University's Armstrong Campus and local high schools and middle schools. The program will expose a diverse group of high school and middle school students to engineering concepts and careers through mini engineering projects within a mentoring framework. The program will reinforce and strengthen student STEM knowledge and develop the next generation of NASA scientists, technicians, engineers and mathematicians.
Who?
High schools and select middle schools in the greater Savannah area including Richmond Hill, Pooler, Effingham County, Bulloch County serve as the host sites
Each school can have a team of 4-6 students
Each school team should have a teacher to serve as a mentor
Each school team will be paired with an Eagle Engineering Ambassador
If your school would like to have more than one team, please contact the program directors
Eagle Engineering Ambassadors: Georgia Southern Engineering Students
Program Directors: Dr. Priya Goeser and Dr. Thomas Murphy, Georgia Southern University, Armstrong Campus
When?
Spring 2024: February 1, 2024 - May 1, 2024
The start and end dates are for the program as a whole. Each school team may choose to participate anywhere from 3-8 weeks during each semester.
2-3 visits per project
Each school team can work with their teacher and EEA to determine best times to meet (during or after school)
Where?
Teams will meet at the local schools.
There are opportunities to bring teams to the Armstrong Campus of Georgia Southern University. Please contact program directors for details.
What?
Mini engineering projects which highlight topics of NASA interest
Robotics using Lego Mindstorms, Sphero BOLTs and Arduino Zumos
Autonomous Control using Embedded Systems
CAD applications including 3D printing
End product will be showcased via video on a YouTube Channel created by the team
How?
This project is funded by the Georgia Space Grant Consortium, Gulfstream and Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing, Georgia Southern University
High school and middle school students, teachers and schools may participate at no cost to them. All equipment for projects will be provided.
