What is Sustainability?

Sustainability is often defined as the ability to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. In other words, sustainability requires careful use of our resources, including water, air, energy, biodiversity, soil, etc. so they will be in adequate supply for the foreseeable future. 

Southern Sustainability Week is back!! 

Beginning April 1st to April 4th, please join us at the following events (all events hosted on the Statesboro campus): 

Monday (4/1) – Equality Through Action

  • Engaging education and advocacy tabling events (11 AM to 1 PM @ RU Rotunda

Tuesday (4/2) – Connection to Our Planet

  • Planting Party — learn to plant, till, and water! (9 AM to 10 AM @ Campus Community Garden
  • Interactive tabling on environmental stewardship and green initiatives for the community (11 AM to 1 PM @ RU Rotunda

Wednesday (4/3) – Sustaining Health & Wellness

  • Farmer’s Market on Campus: multiple vendors and exhibitors coming to share their sustainable initiatives and goods (10 AM to 2 PM @ RU Rotunda
  • Water Sustainability Roundtable — engage in discussion with faculty, staff, and students (5 PM to 6 PM @ RU 2043

Thursday (4/4) – Innovation through Sustainability

  • A showcase of sustainable programs and opportunities on Georgia Southern’s campus (11 AM to 1 PM @ RU Rotunda

Every single day (4/1-4/4) the Campus Thrift Store will also be out during the 11 AM to 1 PM slot. 

Our Mission

  • To increase positive behavior through education and awareness on sustainability issues.
  • To form external and internal partnerships to support sustainable practices.
  • To advocate for best sustainable practices at Georgia Southern University.
